The temperature range of the Big Green Egg ranges from 70°C to approx. 400°C Celsius. The ignition process itself takes only about 15 minutes. Thanks to the sophisticated ventilation technology with supply air valve and REGGulator cover valve, the temperature can be regulated very precisely after ignition. The EGG then keeps the temperature constant and independent of the outside temperature. Even at an outside temperature of -50°C , the EGG manages to reliably maintain the set temperature.
The Big Green Egg has a patented cast iron lid valve at the top of the dome. The REGGulator allows very precise temperature control and regulates the exhaust air from the dome. On the opening of the cover valve is a casting disc, which is swiveled inwards or outwards to open and / or close the valve. So that the optimally adjusted lid valve does not adjust when the lid is opened, solenoids hold the valve disc in place.
At the boiler further down there is a large slider which is responsible for the supply air. The lower opening of the EGG is either opened further or closed with the slider to reduce or expand the oxygen supply depending on the desired temperature. Through this opening, the coal residue and ash are also removed with the help of an ash slider.
